Playing a virtual golf course at Fringe Golf: what to expect

Wondering what a virtual golf round at Fringe Golf is like? See how course play, group bay bookings and session times work in Sheffield.

You hit a real ball. The course appears on the screen. Trackman iO reads each shot and places it into the virtual round. That is the basic idea behind playing a course indoors at Fringe and you can do it on your own or with friends.

If you are planning a first visit, the useful questions are who is coming, how long to book and whether you want course play or time working on your own shots.

A virtual round uses a real ball and an on-screen course

In one of our simulator bays, you play shots as you would in golf while the system shows where they finish on a virtual course. Trackman also offers practice and game modes, so a course round is one way to use the bay, not the only one. We describe playing iconic courses at Fringe, but the exact library and settings should be checked with our team if you have one course in mind.

You can play alone or bring a group

Our four Trackman iO bays take up to five golfers each. A solo golfer can explore a course at their own pace; friends can share the round, watch one another's shots and make it competitive or relaxed. You book the bay for a set time rather than reserving a place in a fixed group event.

One booking is a block of bay time, not a guaranteed 18 holes

A standard session is listed as one hour, with the final hour of opening lasting 55 minutes. The number of holes you finish depends on group size, pace and the course you choose. If completing 18 holes matters to you, ask us what length of booking makes sense before choosing a slot. A shorter visit can still be an enjoyable chance to play part of a course.

Course play and a lesson are different visits

If the point is a round with friends, book a standard bay. If you want a PGA coach to help you understand your game and the data, book coaching separately. The Trackman feedback is available during simulator play, but a standard bay session does not include a coach.

You do not need to join to play

Our Play Golf page gives you three ways to use the bays: Book & Play, seasonal packages and Club Membership. For a first virtual round, Book & Play is the straightforward option. Pick a bay, time and player count through YourGolfBooking; choose a package or membership later only if regular visits suit you.

If the weather or daylight has ruled out an outdoor round, a virtual course is another way to spend that golf time together. See our current bay options and book a session that fits your group. Check with us about a particular course or the time needed before making it the centre of a bigger plan.
